10 o’clock list: Guilty Pleasures of Kenyon

This post was written using a Kaye Brother Collaboration.  “We takin’ over, one Sendoff at a time.

The unholy duo.

Living in Middle of Nowhere, Ohio, it sometimes seems necessary to “treat” ourselves to some decadent activities to get away from rural life.  Not everyone is guilty of all of these, but we’ve all committed at least one of the sins on this list, admit it or not.  We’ll be the first to admit it. (Hi, my name is Spencer/Dylan and I am a selfish liberal arts student have a problem.)

  1. Taking Safe Rides when you really don’t need it — Who the hell wants to walk all the way from Peirce back to first-year housing.  I mean, it’s like a whole eighth of a mile!
  2. Smoothies at the KAC — So decadent, but so good for you. At $3.25 a pop, one is 92 percent the cost of a load of laundry, but it’s totally worth it.
  3. Sitting in the chairs overlooking the Olin atrium — People-watching is human nature, but you aren’t getting any work done here.
  4. Putting non-athletic clothes on your KAC loop — It’s tough convincing the laundry service that I ran in my jeans, but it’s worth it when they’re clean… and slightly tinted purple.
  5. Renting all your textbooks from the library — I’m not saying I’ve done this, but I’m also not saying I haven’t. Sure, the Bookstore thrives on textbook sales, but 2 percent back on a $300 textbook hardly seems worth it. #halfassedapology
  6. Printing in color in Gund Commons — The fact that Kenyon has free printing is a wonder in its own right, but when it’s in color, it almost justifies the cost of tuition.
  7. Scheduling no classes that start before 10:10 — Every night is Friday night.
  8. Peanut butter in Peirce — It goes with literally everything and it’s packed with protein and nutrients!
  9. Grabbing a brown bag of medicine from the Health Center — It’s like Halloween, but with better goodies and fewer bad decisions.
  10. Using someone else’s shampoo and conditioner — It’s kind of like living in a Rite Aid. My hair has never felt/looked so good. Treat yourself; you deserve it.

So with finals right around the corner (sorry for the truth-bomb), you deserve to treat yourself to a little self-love.
