Writing’s really amazing because you don’t need any formal education to be a writer.

Seven students decided to pursue a creative writing degree anyway. At 5 p.m. today in Cheever Room of Finn House (the yellow house next to the post office), the Creative Writing Senior Seminar (myself included) will be reading excerpts from our creative capstone projects in completion of the Creative Writing Emphasis. There will also be refreshments!

Artist Profile: Roxy Paine

Artist Profile: Roxy Paine

Whether you’ve seen a picture in an email or gone to Gund Gallery to see for yourself, if you’re on the college’s dislist, you know (at least a little bit) about Roxy Paine. The picture in the email shows a security checkpoint: a bin exiting an X-ray machine, the plastic strips that hang at the machine’s tail-end bending as the bin passes through them. But they are not actually plastic, and neither is the bin. Everything is made of wood. Maple to be exact, light in color and naturally stained. The contrast between the object a sculpture depicts and the material it’s made of is integral to Paine’s work.

As the snow descended from the heavens, and the scholarly aura intensified with classes began, Kenyon College as we know it was back in action.

Ever wanted to know what the Kenyon College student population thinks? As we all know, Kenyon College is notorious for our fire Yik Yak game. And with a new semester and new yaks, the creative juices got flowing.
