After mid-terms, anything can really be a great escape from the old Gambeezy. And while racing sticks sure does sound like tons of fun, we’ll be kicking it back in New York over break. If you’re traveling to our hometown over the next two weeks, we’ve compiled a list of things to keep you occupied. Miles Purinton (’12) wrote a guide to New York for spring break last year, but we’ve got a few things to add! For starters, you really can’t miss the Derbytaunt Ball. It’s every angsty, rebellious teenage girl’s dream (Note: Not that we would know personally, we were definitely never angsty or rebellious), but everyone can have a blast.

Reading Days Travel Guide: Cleveland

Today’s travel guide was written by Paul Hoehn ’14 for last year’s Reading Days. It was just so super we had to bring it back.

You may know it as the “mistake on the lake,” but the real mistake would be not visiting Cleveland sometime during your four years at Kenyon.  Sure, It’s become known for its struggling economy and that time the Cuyahoga River caught on fire (come on people, that was like forty years ago!), but Cleveland has a lot to offer.  It’s only an hour farther away than Columbus and certainly worth the cost of the extra gas.  Reading days provides the perfect opportunity for you to branch out from your usual Columbus/Easton day trips and explore this glistening metropolis to our north.

Reading Days Travel Guide: Chicago

For those of you tired of pretending going to Columbus counts as a real getaway, here’s a trip that’s a little more advanced. If you’ve got a road trip buddy and can shell out for about 400 miles’ worth of gas each way, Chicago is less than seven hours away! And you’ll be richly rewarded by one of the most modern, beautiful, and dynamic of American cities. Chicago isn’t all dirty politics and massive fires and slaughterhouses anymore — this is a city with charm and class. There’s plenty to do to keep you occupied for way more than three days, but after the jump are a few suggestions to get you started.

Well, whether you have a couch to crash on or not, The Thrill‘s crack travel team has you covered. This is the second of five guides to cities around the United States that we’ll be rolling out this week. Safe travels!

Philly is the most cozy-feeling big city in the world. The venues are good, the restaurants are better and it’s easily (and cheaply) accessible by Bolt and Megabus from Boston, New York, Washington, D.C. and Baltimore. If you happen to be in the fair city of Philadelphia over break, this is what I think you should do.

Spend a Day in (Old) Milwaukee

It’s that time of the year again: you’re scrambling to find a friend’s house to decamp to for part of spring break, lest you get stuck at home without any of your high school friends to hang out with. Well, whether you have a couch to crash on or not, The Thrill‘s crack travel team has you covered. Milwaukee, Wis., also known as Cream City, Brew City and the Dirty Ole Mill, holds a special place in my heart.  I have lived in the Milwaukee area almost my whole life, but I don’t think I understood how great a city it actually is until recently. If you happen to be in the Milwaukee area over break, here’s a lineup of places to visit: restaurants, museums, bars and much more.
